I am a Systemic Family Psychotherapist with many years of experience supporting couples, families, children and young people both in the public sector and privately. My practice is systemic which means understanding people within the context of their family, culture, and social environment. My approach is collaborative, creative and respectful. I work with individuals, families and couples to explore what works well in their relationships, build on existing strengths, while creating space for more difficult conversations. I encourage discussion about a preferred future and how together in therapy we can move towards this.
As a therapist my hope is to help clients deepen their understanding of themselves and how they relate to others enabling them to find new ways to communicate and connect. I draw on attachment-based, emotionally focused and narrative approaches. I have experience of working with individuals and families at different stages of life, young people struggling with low mood, anxiety, self-harm, questioning their gender identity or navigating a neurodiversity diagnosis. Families experiencing the challenges of perinatal mental health, relationship conflict, and the transition to parenthood. Adult families with mental health and addiction.
My work with couples focuses on improving communication, rebuilding trust and increasing emotional and physical intimacy. Whoever I am working with, individuals, couples or families, my aim is to create a safe space where all feel heard and valued. I am always mindful of power and how differences in age, gender, race or sexual orientation can influence the conversations we have or not. I am experienced in working with same sex, heterosexual, non binary couples/families.
