A bit about me

Hello and a very warm welcome. I am Andrew, an integrative counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I recognise that therapy requires a lot of trust, and I believe people need to feel safe before they can fully embrace openness. In my eyes, it is a trusting relationship that allows people to turn their personal experiences into shared ones, which is how a lot of growth and healing takes place.

As an Integrative counsellor, I am guided by a variety of therapeutic approaches, and sessions with me can range from talking therapy, to working with embodiment and breathing, or even creative expression such as drawing or poetry. I am also relationally orientated, and view counselling as a shared venture grounded in consent, collaboration, and intention. Working together to reach your goals is of the upmost importance to me!

I entered the counselling profession in 2015 and have been blessed to have worked with a very diverse client group. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and I stay committed to considering how sameness and difference may be influencing the counselling relationship. I approach all societal issues with openness and curiosity, and believe that every person has a right to be who they are without prejudice.

I have a particular interest in how masculinity shows up in our lives, the roles we’re handed, the expectations we inherit and the quieter parts that often go unspoken. I’ve worked extensively with men, including those who identify as gay, who are exploring what masculinity means to them beyond the outdated narratives they’ve been taught, or the world has us believe. In our work together, I gently challenge these inherited stories, creating space for more authentic, expansive, and self-defined ways of being.

When booking, any of our in person sessions can be changed to a virtual session. Book your session first and then pop the therapist and hey@theselfspace.com an email to let them know.
