A bit about me

Hi, I’m Deirdre Rigby. I’m a BACP-accredited counsellor with a BSc(Hon) in Psychology with Counselling. With over 30 years of experience working with adults and adolescents, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my practice. The fundamental essence of my integrative approach as a counsellor is deeply anchored in the therapeutic relationship with the client. This includes the analysis of the unconscious, the complex corridors of the mind, and the underlying discourse of language and behaviour, including one’s environment. A factor in my approach is having a neurodiversity disability: dyslexia. At an early point in my life, I was made acutely aware of the barriers to communication and educational opportunities that this generates. This has profoundly affected my integrative approach, consistently shaping my communication with clients using metaphors, colours and narratives for them to be heard and understood. On the journey, I trust that my clients will heal and reach their potential as much as possible. I am originally from Zimbabwe and aware of my clients’ spiritual and cultural diversity. Some of the areas I have worked with are anger, depression, workplace issues, identity, childhood trauma, loneliness, and spiritual matters.
