I am a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, working at your own speed. I speak in plain English and have no agenda – I listen to you and reflect with you, seeking to understand your conscious thoughts and feelings and sometimes exploring what might be deeper and less conscious in what may be troubling you. I believe therapy should focus on the here and now, while the past can sometimes be helpful in making sense of painful patterns of thoughts, feelings and relationships that may feel stuck in the present. I also have an MA in psychology of religion and work with therapy clients who have grown up in religious families and also with clients who are struggling with existential issues in the present – including ageing, bereavement, loss of role and illness. As well as working privately I have extensive experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS, having worked in a community crisis mental health service, in perinatal mental health, older age mental health, long term medical conditions and in hospital care. I have also worked as a staff counsellor for an occupational health service. I am registered with the BACP and abide by their code of ethics.
When booking, any of our in person sessions can be changed to a virtual session. Book your session first and then pop the therapist and hey@theselfspace.com an email to let them know.
