A bit about me

Hello, I am Susan. I’m a Person-Centred Counsellor who is passionate about delivering client-centred support that empowers and enables you to make informed decisions to help move forward in your life. The core of my approach is empathy, and reflective listening. To work with your frame of reference and compassion in what can be a difficult journey at times, but a fundamental one in moving towards creating change. My approach works with the whole person, this will include exploring the implicit nature of your thoughts, feelings, relationships and the social aspect of your life. We will work together to explore on a deeper level the underlying feelings and emotions, of the presenting issues such as anger, anxiety, self esteem, relationship conflict and many other difficult life problems. Beginning to work on a deeper level may help bring your unconscious thought processes more into the awareness. Many of these unconscious thought processes are feelings, urges, needs, difficult experiences, desires, and fears that are tied to anxiety, conflict and pain. Once we begin to process these thoughts, we can then start to understand what could possibly be exerting influence on our actions. It is a non-directive approach working in the here and now, but also taking into account how past events can be triggered by present events. I work at your own pace, and with what you choose to discuss. I may introduce tools such as worksheets with your agreement. The aim of these is to provide knowledge about various aspects of the presenting issue, and this may also include motivational work. The space will be one that is safe for you to explore, and is non-judgemental and empathic.

When booking, any of our in person sessions can be changed to a virtual session. Book your session first and then pop the therapist and hey@theselfspace.com an email to let them know.
