To the client I have yet to meet, welcome! Being able to identify and name life experiences as losses worthy of grief can be an important part of healing. Yet often, we tend to identify death as being the only life event worthy of grief. In today’s fast-paced world, our experiences of loss are quickly pushed aside and minimised as we are forced to ‘get on with it’ or get over it’. Grief can occur from many situations; divorce, loss of good health, trauma, infertility, retirement, becoming a parent, moving house, the end of a dream… It took me a long time to find therapy. Overwhelmed with thoughts and emotions following a difficult health diagnosis, I couldn’t bring myself to confide in those closest to me. My first session brought such relief having been met with simple warmth and understanding – finally no judgements or ‘fixing’. As your counsellor, I will offer that same level of warmth, understanding and empathy.
With the belief that the quality of the relationship is key to meaningful therapy, I work at your pace to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. As an integrative counsellor, I use person-centred and psychodynamic approaches to help you explore what is happening in the present day and how past experiences and relationships impact you now. We will always go at your pace. I hold a diploma in counselling, have volunteered for various charities and have supported those bereaved by homicide through Victim Support as well as aided members of the police force through an EAP service. My own lived experience of chronic autoimmune illness has deepened my interest in this area also.
If you are struggling with grief, be it from death (yes this includes your beloved pet), other loss or anything else and are ready for a good conversation with a qualified person, I am here and am really looking forward to meeting you.
