As a Coach and a Therapist myself, I know the power of each approach. Coaching can be an incredible tool when it comes to making real, tangible progress in the here and now; it can help us to make huge shifts in our professional lives, set clear goals for moving forward, and hold us accountable, firm and steady when we wobble. But it does get a bad rep…

Even after graduating from a highly reputable coach training (The Tavistock Institute), I was still conscious (and concerned) that there were no recognised moderating bodies for the profession; the training guidelines that qualify people are pretty poor for the most part, and you can be qualified in as little as a weekend. Eek.

So when we started talking about potentially offering coaching at Self Space, I needed to be sure that it stood apart from many of the other offerings on the market; that I could confidently stand behind it, and know that clients were in safe and well-trained hands.

But even the best coaching has its limitations.

My experience as a coach has shown me that the root of a client’s current issues (which might look like something more ‘surface-level’; a difficult salary negotiating, or a reoccurring problem with confidence, for example), will often have their feet firmly in the past.

Longer lasting change comes from understanding the past, which in turn allows us to align in the present – and that’s what gives us the insight to look to the future.

So, the most impactful change will happen when the therapist/coach has the training to hold both the past, present and the future, helping the client to navigate these sensitively and with skill.

Through Therapeutic Coaching from Self Space, we’ve created a progressive coaching program delivered only by dual-trained therapists (meaning they’re professionally trained as coaches and therapists). This  lends itself to managing the here and now, with clear goals and objectives, whilst still making space for potentially deeper matters, and how they might be impacting our clients.

Here’s how we’re doing it…

For therapists, CPD (Continuing Professional Development) refers to the ongoing process of maintaining, developing and enhancing our professional knowledge and skills throughout our career. With this in mind, we’ve written and delivered a professional CPD for all of our Therapeutic Coaches. This gives us the confidence to offer coaching in a way that I know will be valuable, ethical and impactful. It also guarantees that whatever material is delivered will be done so safely, creating an exciting proposition for clients and their development.

Therapeutic Coaching from Self Space is the first and only of its kind in terms of training, and I’m beyond excited  for what this offering will do to the coaching space. Our team is brilliant, and the offering is safe, progressive and, frankly, bloody outstanding.

Practical, goal-oriented coaching with the depth and expertise of psychotherapy.
