As we expand our clinical offering, we are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to bring specialist expertise in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for individuals experiencing a range of mental health challenges.

Intro and role overview 

We’re looking for a GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrist with a licence to practise and a strong freelance consultancy background, ready to bring their clinical depth and fresh energy to our expanding team at Self Space. The ideal candidate will bring experience and expertise in adult mental health including neurodiversity, or complex trauma, and have a deep understanding of nuanced and intersectional presentations.  You approach care with rigour, humanity, and a sharp clinical lens—while also recognising that therapy can (and should) be accessible, stigma-free, and genuinely engaging.You embody a people-centered, warm yet professional approach that reflects the values that we live and breathe. As our Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in assessing and formulating diagnoses for clients, guiding their treatment plans, and working closely with our therapists and wider clinical team. Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric assessments to diagnose mental health conditions, considering biopsychosocial factors.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based diagnostic formulations and treatment recommendations.
  • Offer psychiatric consultations to therapists, supporting them in their work with complex cases.
  • Prescribe medication when clinically indicated, ensuring safe and ethical practice.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, clinical leads to ensure the best treatment 
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in clinical governance, supervision, and CPD activities to uphold best practices.
  • Provide medical reviews, treatment planning and referral reports within the self space pathway 
  • Contribute to our Clinical business strategy – profit models, innovation where needed 
  • Create corporate mental health packages and Psychiatric consultations towards our B2B revenue

 

We will prioritise candidates with: 

  • Full GMC registration & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Registration on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
  • Experience & knowledge in adult psychiatry & mental health diagnosis
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
  • Expert communication skills-  who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
  • Acute inpatient and outpatient experience 
  • At least 5 years relevant experience
